India's largest

inland salt lake.

The salt has been

farmed for a thousand years

 

After salt water reaches

a certain concentration,

it will be released from

the west side to the 80 kmĀ² eastern side by lifting

dam gates.

 

To avoid pollution by algea,

the ponds have to be cleaned manualy.
